Message From Department Head

Dear Students,

Molecular biology and genetics (MBG) is the science of life that candidates who are excited to prove or refute by questioning the scientific hypotheses in the curiosity that studies and researches based on the genetic characteristics of organisms, the known ones are questioned, the unknown are investigated. Beyond being a branch of science originating from various disciplines such as biology and biochemistry; Professor Dr. Aziz SANCAR who is  the one of the most important scientists in our country was awarded. Interdisciplinary studies were carried out, the spiral structure of DNA in 1953 was resolved, PCR and recombinant DNA technologies were introduced in the 1970s, and the human genome project was completed in the early 2000s. Molecular biology and Genetics  is a scientific area where young brains can work in pleasure and excitement.

 

The MBG department continues its teaching activities with lessons to better understand the structure and functions of organisms at the cellular and molecular level by using modern technologies in scientific discipline. Our department aims to be in constant contact with industry-oriented industries, such as health, environment, agriculture and food, using data from molecular biology and genetics studies. The modern biotechnological applications defined as “the use of living things or their products to produce a product that is beneficial to humans (or its environment) or to solve a problem” are all based on knowledge in molecular biology and genetic engineering practices. Our department students can use laboratory facilities during their studies, apply to TÜBİTAK projects for undergraduate students, can benefit from national and international student exchange programs (FARABİ, ERASMUS), and can do internships in different fields.

 

Basic studies in molecular biology and genetics include the structure of DNA and RNA, genes, how genetic information transforms into RNA, proteins that are functional products of RNA information, and how there is a relationship between diseases and genes. MBG department; The DNA you heard in elementary school, the concept of maximum enzyme speed in secondary school, how the insulin that your diabetic relative gets in the hospital or what it means in terms of molecular biology at some stage of your life, the products you buy from market shelves. Here is the only place where you can find out.

 

Students who want to choose Molecular Biology and Genetics Department; a curious and good observer, rational and skeptical, must have the ability to work patiently in reaching his work and goals, determine the appropriate method in his observations and experiments, use the best material in his hand, and work independently from the authority. If you want to illuminate the secrets of the bone fragment found by an archaeologist, to produce useful products from microbes and plants, to human and environment, to contribute to justice by DNA analysis in murder cases, to produce energy that does not pollute the environment, you should be a molecular biologist.
